Safely cleans rosin from violin, viola, cello and bass strings
The safer and uncompromising way to clean rosin from your strings and keep them sounding sweet.
3 round pads, used dry, with special cleaning technology. Just fold them in half, and pinch the string between your fingers, moving up and down the string. Will not push rosin into the winding, or affect the diameter or surface of the strings.
• SWEET STRING is the “cleanest” method to clean rosin from strings to keep your strings sounding as
they were intended.
• SWEET STRING easily scrapes the rosin off the string without abrading or scratching
• SWEET STRING is dry and safe to use as there is nothing to drip on the violin or absorb into the string
windings and core
• Cleaning with a cloth just flattens the rosin on the string and leaves a thin layer, which will build up
and affect tone
• Cleaning with liquids especially alcohol will dissolve the rosin but the rosin will bleed into the
windings and core of the string thereby changing the tonal characteristic of the string… not to mention
the possible hazard to the instrument finish
• Cleaning with abrasives such as steel wool or other domestic scrub pad can wear away the string
windings, will leave steel wool dust that will rust and which can get stuck between the string windings
or fall on the instrument finish, all with negative consequences
• SWEET STRING material is selected to be non abrasive, non corroding and safe for gentle use on
delicate string surfaces such as metal, synthetic or gut musical strings
• SWEET STRING shape & size is selected to be most effective for efficiency and ease of use
Instructions (refer to photo)
• Fold pad in two and create a firm crease
• Hold folded pad between thumb and forefinger
• Place pad over string such that the folded edge is angled upward sufficiently that it does not hit the end of
the fingerboard.
• With gentle pressure downwards and pinching the string, stroke the string with the pad. Usually 3 or 4
strokes is sufficient depending on pressure applied and amount of old rosin residue. Once strings are
cleaned regularly, one or two strokes is all that is needed.
• When string is clean, the pad will slide smoothly over the string
• Do not scrub the string with excessive strokes or pressure
• Repeat on each string on areas where there is rosin deposit
• To test the effect of cleaning, play your instrument and carefully note the tone. After cleaning, play again
and note the improvement
• Do not use SWEET STRING on instrument body or finishes
• Note that some pads may have black ink on one side… that is the manufacturers marking and will not
affect performance of the pad.
