Gamboge
“Gamboge is extracted from trees of the guttiferous plant family found in Indochina, Thailand, Sri Lanka, etc. It consists of 70% resinous elements; the rest is rubber. Gamboge is extracted by notching the bark, collecting the exuded sap in bamboo tubes and allowing to dry.” – Excerpt from VIOLIN VARNISHES by Josef and Reiner Hammerl, page 42. More information about gamboge, its properties and use can be found in this book.

Gamboge has strong laxative properties. Small doses are sufficient to produce watery feces, while large doses can be fatal.Wikipedia
